Islamic Studies |
Seventh Grade |
Age
group: 12-13 |
|
Main
Focus: To understand the world of Islam. In public school
this grade usually studies geography and the history of regions.
Non-Muslim written books rarely ever mention anything positive about the
Muslim world and its history, if at all. Learning
Abilities: Another plateau is reached by most students here. The
boys become rowdy again and tend to try to be the center
of attention. Many girls recede into the background and do not
participate as well. The fear of embarrassment, particularly among
girls is high. The skilled teacher will not call only on the vocal or
noisy students. Formats
to Avoid: Group activities. Students do not generally work well
together at this age unless the teacher has a well-prepared and thought out
group activity. Students have to be motivated well enough to feel a
part of the goals of any group activity. It is good to announce
upcoming group activities a few days before and to make the students aware of
its goals so they can be brought on board. Activities based on the
model of "Mini-United Nations" are often well-received. Preferred
Format: Disciplined reading of the lessons combined with
real life discussion formats that encourage the free exploration of our
faith, feelings and truths. |
